MAIN CAST: Kate Beckinsale, Theo James, Tobias Menzies
IMDB Summary
Vampire death dealer, Selene (Kate Beckinsale) fights to end the eternal war between the Lycan clan and the Vampire faction that betrayed her.
MY REVIEW:
The best way to describe this movie is a fight to the death or survival, your choice. But this was bringing the franchise back to what made it good. Not that any of the sequels was weak, but Selene was vindicated for all her troubles and problems she had with the vampire clan that betrayed her. I really liked the direction this movie went with her. The big battle was intense and satisfying. If this is the last time we will see a Underworld sequel or Selene, then it ended well.
MAIN CAST: Kate Beckinsale, Michael Ealy, India Eisley
IMDB Summary
Vampire death dealer, Selene (Kate Beckinsale) fights to end the eternal war between the Lycan clan and the Vampire faction that betrayed her.
MY REVIEW
I disagree with the IMDB Summary. Selene has always fought to end the war, but this movie is more about survival of her Micheal and her child. However in this sequel she wakes up in captivity. It appears that a new order has taken over the world, but what is scarier is who is in charge.Again Selene finds herself being a reluctant alley with the vampires in fighting the lycans. But her daughter has some surprising talents of her own and turns out to be a trusted alley. However Selene is more alone then ever in this battle.
An origins story centered on the centuries-old feud between the race of aristocratic vampires and their onetime slaves, the Lycans
MY REVIEW
The first time I watched this I was disappointed because for some reason I was unaware that it was a origins story, and I was not happy when I left the theater, but it grew on me. I really do like this story, it is a excellent origins story. I have watched it many times on Blue Ray. I missed Kate Beckinsale but Rhona Mitra did a excellent job as Sonja who was Viktor's daughter. I really liked how they blended a love story in all this carnage. This made all five movies blend together. It told the history of the coven and of the Lycans.
MAIN CAST: Kate Beckinsale, Scott Speedman, Bill Nighy
This was one of the best sequels in movie history in that it did not try to make it better then before but continue where it left off from the first movie. Therefore making the history of the movie franchise stronger and richer. it's called Evolution and it did evolve. What I can't understand is why Micheal was such a horrible fighter. He always took a beating and Selene came to the rescue. Yes he did help her a few times but she was the one that got him out of tight spots more then he did her. They pumped up Micheal as a hero but Selene was clearly a better fighter. But this was a great movie no matter who the better hero was.
MAIN CAST: Kate Beckinsale, Scott Speedman, Shane Brolly
IMDB STORY LINE:
Selene, a vampire warrior, is entrenched in a conflict between vampires and werewolves, while falling in love with Michael, a human who is sought by werewolves for unknown reasons.
I have seen many Vampire and Werewolf stories and movies, but I really enjoyed this modern age look at the genre. It was set in current time, but it felt like a classic. The dark colors made it feel and look like a classic black and white horror film. It had it's own history which was expanded on in the four sequels. The action and fighting was spectacular. I really liked the history and story line that was created in this movie. There was no good or bad guys, only Selene, you wanted her to win, and you was not sure who was on her side. The war was brutal but almost poetic. It was a great movie to see on the big screen.
MAIN CAST: Hugh Jackman, Kate Beckinsale, Richard Roxburgh
WHAT I LIKED
As best as it could, with all the modern changes made in movie making, this movie reached back to the classic horror film making. I don't mean to say it was terrifying, but the movie had it's intense moments. Awesome landscape and visuals. And while it was dark, there was a lot of vibrant color blended perfectly in the story. Dracula's ball at his mansion was filled with activity. It was a treat to the eyes. I enjoyed how the movie had all the old monster stories. Frankenstein monster, Igor, Jekyll & Hyde and Werewolves and of course Vampires and big creepy beautiful dark mansions.
WHAT I DID NOT LIKE
This was a good movie, I am not going to pick it apart for small things I may have not understood.
SIDE NOTES
Movie was rated a well deserved PG-13, Movie could be a family movie , do not recommend for younger viewers. Pre-teens or teenagers should be able to handle it, It all depends on your family standards. I gave it a 10 on the IMDB scal
There are people that can look you in the eyes and convince you that even if your going to die and the world is about to end, it's ok. There are people who can tell you to jump of a high level bridge because they need you to do that and for a second you might consider doing so, There are people that would tell you that they are going to blown your brains out of your head and you will enjoy it and you would believe them.
Kate Beckinsale is such a actress. Every movie I have seen her in, your going to do what she tells you just because she told you to do so and you will enjoy it. one of my favorite lines she had was in the 2001 movie Pearl Harbor. Soldiers where being rushed in after the attack and this guy looks at her and tells her he does not want to die, in true nurse style she looks back at him and says your going to be fine and rubs her hand over his head and tells someone he is not going to make it.
Have you ever been sick in the hospital and not doing that well and the nurse comes in and makes everything ok? I mean your still sick, but as long as the nurse said you was ok, then it was OK, That is what Kate Beckinsale brings to the screen. In the 2004 movie Aviator staring Lenardo DiCaprio as the late Howard Hughes, Kate portrays the late Ava Gardner. When Howard has a breakdown Ava comes to his rescue cleans him up and gets him ready for the hearings with love and care of a mother, wife or nurse I could not tell, She covered all roles when she cared for him.
And what a curve she throws at us by being a vampire in Underworld movie franchise. But I don't know how to explain this, her role as Selene is not as secure as her other roles but still just as confident, I struggle to explain what the Selene character is. She is sweet but can kill with out blinking. she is soft but tough as nails. She loves you but she will kill you.
so if Kate Beckinsale would tell us all that the world was going to end and we was going to be eaten by large aliens and it was going to be painful. I would be ok......Well......Not Happy, but Ok......
